Every November, the same question lands in a lot of inboxes: what do we actually get people this year? Not another mug nobody asked for. Not a gift card that says "we ran out of ideas." Something people will actually use, that still does its job of saying thanks.
Here's how we'd think it through, whether you're gifting your team, your clients, or both.
Employees vs. clients: different jobs, different gifts
These two categories aren't the same problem, even though they get lumped together every December.
Employee gifts are about appreciation. Your team already knows the company, so the gift doesn't need to sell anything. It needs to feel personal and useful, something they'd wear on a weekend, not just to work.
Client gifts are about the relationship. These people have options. A good client gift reminds them why they like working with you, without turning into an ad. Subtle branding goes a lot further here than a big logo across the chest.
Knowing which one you're solving for changes what's worth ordering.
What's actually working this year
Bulk swag is on its way out. A few things are consistently winning instead:
- Fewer, better pieces. Companies are ordering less overall, but choosing higher-quality, retail-grade items. It matters more than people think, most people remember who gave them a shirt or hat, and that memory sticks even harder when the piece is actually good. If you wouldn't keep it yourself, don't gift it.
- Comfort people actually wear. Quarter-zips, fleece, and soft-shell layers are the standout category this year. Something that works at a desk, on a job site, and on a Saturday.
- Let them choose. A curated pick beats a one-size-fits-all box every time. That's part of why company stores, where employees pick their own gear in their own size, have become such a common part of holiday gifting programs.
- Quieter branding. A logo that's tastefully placed gets worn more than one that covers the whole front. Clean embroidery on a good blank beats a big loud print.
None of this is complicated. It's mostly just picking things people would want even if your logo wasn't on them.
Gift ideas by industry
The right gift also depends a lot on what your people actually do all day. Here's where we'd start for the industries we work with most.
Trades & Workwear Your crew is outside for most of the year, so a warm layer gets worn on the clock and off it. Insulated soft-shell jackets, beanies, and embroidered work shirts are always a safe bet. A branded work bag is a nice add-on if you want to go beyond apparel.
Client-Facing Reps Agents are the face of your brand at every open house and client meeting. Quarter-zips, polos, and structured caps photograph well and still feel like something they'd choose for themselves. A laptop bag is a strong client-facing option too.
Production Teams Practical wins here. Hi-vis outerwear and fleece pullovers double as year-round gear, not just a holiday one-off. Dad hats and tumblers are easy additions for a broader team gift.
Organizations, Clubs, & Nonprofits Comfortable, everyday pieces get the most use from staff and volunteer teams. Fleece, hoodies, and tote bags work well past the holidays and double as event swag the rest of the year.
Hospitality Front-of-house teams need something that looks sharp on shift. Back-of-house teams want something warm and durable. Branded outerwear, aprons, and caps cover both.
Where to start
If you already know what you want, we can get a quote moving fast. If you don't have a clue yet, let's figure it out together. Tell us your headcount, your budget, and your deadline, and we'll help you land on something people will actually be glad to get.
Order early if you can. December fills up fast, and the earlier you lock in your order, the more room there is for us to get it exactly right.
